Chimney & Fireplace Construction

We can restore or build any chimney or fireplace you would like - no matter how small and simple, no matter how large and ornate.

The fact of the matter is that once a problem becomes visible to you from the ground, then the structure is usually beyond saving. This is because chimneys many times will rot from the inside out. So repointing would be like putting a bandaid on a broken leg. We do not perform work we don't believe in. However we do perform repointing when it will be enough and the chimney is structurally sound. Whatever is cost effective for you the customer.

Most times it is well worth the additional cost to go new than to try to save the old.

The chimneys we tear down are often quite basic and perfunctory. Why WOULDN'T we make it something you ENJOY looking at when you pull into your driveway after work?

Often times people dont realize how much their chimney can add to the beauty of their home.... until they see what we can do! It truly can be a finishing touch of class.

The chimneys in these two photos are an identical pair. Each about 8' high and containing 800 brick. Both torn down and built again in a week. The original chimneys were quite plain. We decided to give the customer two showpieces worthy of sitting atop such a beautiful building. She actually hugged me when she stepped outside and saw the first one completed!!

The large fireplace in the Crafts Building cafeteria at Plimoth Plantation. We rebuilt the rear wall using mostly the original firebrick. Pure lime was used for mortar to maintain penny thin joints. This also gives it a lot of flex to avoid cracking from the constant heating and cooling -  A fact that is either not known or ignored by many masons.

This chimney was built in Quincy on Winthrop street. She approved the use of this brick to replace the top 12' or so that we had to rebuild of her existing chimney. The remainder was repointed. All of the mortar used contained a red dye.

The two fireplaces pictured above were built in Boston in two units in the same building. They would later be covered with a beautiful colonial finish by the carpenters.

Natural stone cannot be matched for beauty. Here it is in the form of a 10' high, 8' wide fireplace surround. Built in Dedham in 2005.

Here is a GORGEOUS chimney we tore down and rebuilt in Dorchester on Monadnock St.. We cleaned and reused the original brick. We layed them in a mortar with red dye added. It was and still is absolutely stunning.

And then there are the more basic projects...
